Skins: Vol. 2 - Ummmm...it WENT there.

I wrapped up Vol. 2 of Skins over the holiday break. Wow. Just wow. Here's a quick rundown...

Ep. 1: Tony and Maxxie:
Tony is recovering (see Vol. 1) and Maxxie wants to be a dancer. Maxxie also feels like he's being watched. By who? We don't know yet. That's pretty much all I can say without giving too much away - if you haven't seen Vol. 1.

Ep. 2: Sketch:

Maxxie's suspicions were right - he WAS being watched by this cute but very strange girl named Sketch. She desperately tries to get his attention but he won't even notice her. She stays in her apartment taking after her disabled Mom so she's kind of lacking in social skills. Poor girl. I started liking her but she's kind of WAY out there...
Meanwhile, "Osama: The Musical" is getting underway - yes, it's about 9/11 - and let's just say that Maxxie, Michelle and Sketch have a "run-in" of sorts....

Ep. 3: Sid:
We learn more about Sid's home life. His mother left him and his father - which was quite traumatic - and his father has these ridiculously high expectations for him and we never really understand why until his grandfather comes to visit, bringing Sid's uncle and two cousins. The cousins are a terror but no one really sees that except Sid and his father but there's one problem: Sid's dad is so scared of letting his own father down that he won't stand up for himself. This includes not telling him that he and his wife split up - which results in an outburst, and accident and Sid's dad finally standing up for himself. While you feel really happy that Sid's dad has finally stood up for himself and seems to ease up on Sid, the worst thing ever happens - of course...

Ep. 4: Michelle:
Michelle's having a birthday. And her new step-sister has invited herself. Yes, her mother has remarried AGAIN. It's starting to drive me crazy! Anyways, Michelle is having a hard time coping with Tony and Sid is having a hard time coping with his dilemma...will they seek comfort in each other's arms? I don't know, maybe. The whole gang (plus the step-sis) go to a beach on a camping trip for Michell's birthday and the whole time, I was wondering about Chris and Jal. What is going on with them? They're like the Liberty and JT of Skins. Would my Degrassi dreams come true on Skins???

Ep. 5: Chris:
Chris is expelled! What?! Why? Could it be his partying? His drugs? His adventurous outlook on life? Yes, yes and yes. What does that mean for Chris? Oh, you know, being kicked out on the street and looking for work. Luckily, he finds work and a place to stay with Cassie (who is back! and out on the streets) but not without some trouble.
But while all this is happening, Jal has struck up a sort of contest with Chris - his outlook on life can no longer be "Fuck it" but in return, Jal has to say "Yes" to a lot more things.

The result? The JT and Liberty of Skins! Finally! I just love these 2 together!!

Ep. 6: Tony:
He's lost. He's confused. He's not himself. And everyone is having a hard time with it. Tony embarks on a trip to check out another school - which tuns into a super awesome adventure of rediscovery (with the aid of a mysterious girl, of course)...

Ep. 7: Effy:
Poor Effy. She's so young and yet, here she is - taking care of her severely depressed mother. We get it, Stonem family, Tony had a horrible trauma and he's not the same but that doesn't mean Effy has to take care of everyone. She's having a hard time as it is going to raves and selling drugs and whatnot. Cut her a break. I sound like I'm being a jerk about Effy but I really do love her character. She might not say much but she can sure get the point across.

Ep. 8: Jal:
Jal and Chris? Jal and college? Jal and Chris and baby? ZOMG - JUST LIKE JT AND LIBERTY!!! Aaaaaanyways - Jal is trying to figure out how to tell Chris about the bun in the oven but just when you think she might - we all realize it may be too late. Cassie was going on and on about secrets and how people shouldn't have them but I wasn't quite sure where she was taking it - until Chris had to go to the hospital! WHAT?!!!! I've said too much...

The end of the season deals with what's up with Chris. I can't say too much except IT GOES THERE. Oh, and I shed some tears. Yes. Call me a sap but whatever. After this season, you really fall in love with these kids (especially since they may or may not remind you of certain Canadian kids...). I started watching Vol. 3 but I'm having a bit of a time with it. I've only gotten through the assembly where the kid reveals his tattoo to everyone but that's where I've stopped. Maybe I'll get back into it during my New Year's break.

Also - does wanting to see the MTV version make me a bad person? I'm kind of jazzed about it...

Skins (US) airs on MTV on Monday, January 17 at 10pm. I know I'll be tuned in...
Love and kisses,

Short Update

It's been a busy, busy month! Well, a very busy couple of months.

*Went to NYC for Halloween and had an uh-mazing time! You can view the photos here and here. It was loads of fun with Vee and the girls and I'd love to do it again next year!

*Filming at work was crazy (as usual) but it was still lots of fun (as usual).

*Housewarming with some friends this past weekend - which was great. We were talking about the good old days at our old job together. Fun times...

*Spent some time with Nate's sister and friends this past Sunday - which was great fun. Found out Robert is engaged! Congrats!

*People around me are having babies: my friend/co-worker Jen is about to explode (her due date is 12/9), my friend Erica called me for my b-day and told me she was expecting and my other friend/co-worker Deb just announced she was preggers! Ack! So many babies! Let's just hope it's not in the water...

*I'm participating in NaNoWriMo this year for the first time ever. Double-D convinced me to do it with him, so I did. It's hard work and I know I'm not going to finish but at least I finally did it and I can do it again next year! I'm not giving up, though. I might have a 10,905 word count (the goal is 50,000 by 11/30) but I'm going to keep going, dammit!

*The Body Politik site is up and running and ready for you!!!

So, that's pretty much it for now. I'll be back for detailed updates later.
Until then, lots of love and kisses!!

El Bar thinks I'm a lady...screw you granny

I would like to think of myself as somewhat of a bar connoisseur. I acquired my first fake ID at the ripe age of 14. I went to my first bar with braces and even remember the first drink I bought...a Screwdriver. It was the only mixed drink I knew and I think this is funny because I HATE vodka. Therefore it means something for me to say a bar is a winner.

Anywho...as many of my excursions in the ATL with Oni, we always end up back at El Bar and believe me, they don't call it the bar for nothing . You can bank on having bangin' beats and badass drink specials any day of the week. Everyone is friendly, bartenders are great, DJs play until the floors are empty....Honestly, I wish I could site specific examples of the many fun nights I have had there, but the bartenders do such a great job that my memory and inhibitions usually leave me somewhere around midnight.

So stop in and say hi to Cory at the door ...tell him La and Oni sent you. We might be there...and you will always find us on the dancefloor!!!

Probably the GREATEST thing to take with you to EVERY party you go to.

EDITOR'S NOTE: This post was originally on my Livejournal and I have decided to re-post it (even though it's a little outdated...) BUT the ♥ for the item that I'm talking about is still the same.
**************************************
Let me start from the beginning.

Saturday, December 20, 2008 started quite horribly.
First, I woke up retardedly early after going to sleep fairly late after abandoning all hope of drinking with a friend.

Then, the old man and I went to the mall. Suburban mall life isn't as fun as I remember it. Anyways - that sh*tty mall experience put us in sh*ttier moods. Not to mention the old man was already upset because he had to buy a gift for his company's yearly "White Elephant" gift X-Mas party and Toys for Tots and his Secret Santa victim: ME.
I had a much harder task with my Secret Santa victim: MY MOM.

While we argued our way through Target, we ended up in the toy section. I was reminded of this when we were making our way through the toys. I had seen it before and I thought it only played songs and it did that sh*tty microphone thing where it didn't really amplify your voice - it just looked like a mic that happened to play songs louder than your voice.
Anyways - I decided that I needed one. VERY BADLY. That was the only way my day was going to get amazing.
But sadly, they only had this one. And that was NOT going to perk up my day. We started to curse the North Point Target until we realized there was another one we could go to.

It was a gift from The Gods!
But wait! My old man found the microphones before me and alerted me that there were no more Brobees. I wanted to scream. As loud as I could. But I couldn't. My chest started hurting, my heart started palpitating and tears stood in my eyes. This day was FUBAR'd. I couldn't go down like that. F*ck no! So what do I do? I go back to the aisle with the Yo Gabba Gabba! microphones and look again. Sure, Muno was in the front. I almost gave up. But then, like a beacon of hope (that I thought I had abandoned), there it was! My Yo Gabba Gabba! Brobee Microphone!!!! Of course I snatched it up! I read the back of the package - just to emphasize the point to my old man and saw "voice amplifier" in the description. The tears of sorrow had turned into tears of joy! Ultimate joy! My old man rolled his eyes, of course.

After making the greatest purchase known to man, I took it out of the package and turned it on. It was amazing. And it was then, after hearing my voice being amplified through this magical device, that I would use it at my friends' going away party.

I made so many people smile (read: annoyed)! There was even a video taken of me with my Brobee mic! How wonderful! Circle of Death was even more fun than normal - all because of my mic!

Thank you, Yo Gabba Gabba! Brobee Microphone! You truly are the greatest gift of all.
(Toodee microphone to join my arsenal very VERY soon on the account of Toodee being my God-Daughter's fave character. I know it exists. It was pictured on the directions for the Brobee mic...)
