Weekend Adventures: Farm Things

 

This past weekend, I accompanied my friend, W, to a farm in North Georgia to pick up some farm-fresh things since the weather keeps postponing local farmers markets from happening.

While up there, we saw the most ominous looking nuclear power plant.  We had to ask the lady at the farm what the heck it was since we know nuclear power plants are usually stationed near running water (like rivers or the ocean).  She told us it's a coal plant and that sometimes it looks a little scary when it's starting up for the day.  What's the first thing we thought?  "We have GOT to film that!!"  Of course!

Next, we made some farm friends!  I snapped the cute little calf while it was feeding in the cage.  Just a note: the smaller calves are put in cages during feeding time ONLY.  That way they won't get bullied out of eating.  Once they're large enough they can eat with their cage-free friends.

The turkey approached us rather aggressively but it didn't try to harm us, it seemed a little...stressed out.   My friend, W, was suddenly struck by the turkey's anxiousness so she started to talk to it in her soothing voice.  Once the turkey calmed a bit, she tentatively went to pet it and it let her!  She continued to pet it while talking to it and it eventually became so relaxed around us that it sat down and curled up next to her.  It was the cutest thing I've ever seen!

All in all, it was fun impromptu trip to the farm and I know I'll be going back with as many cameras as I can fit in my car because there are so many great things to on the way!

Instant Adventures #6

Last Monday was my old man's nephew's high school graduation in...you guessed it, Dahlonega, GA.  We tried to make the most of the road trip up and took photos of interesting things around town, such as the church across from where the ceremony was (the night Instax Mini of the church is more dramatic in person, I promise!), the Diving Bell and the Tree of Progress (?) sculpture.  Surprisingly, I can't find anything about the tree sculpture!  I read the plaque about it for a brief moment and then spent most of my time positioning myself to get the best shot with my Hipstamatic Sergio Lens+Maximus LXIX Film combo.  I had forgotten that the lens adds that vignette blur and I didn't realize it had done that until we were well on our way home.  Oh well.  It definitely adds a touch of moodiness to the tree sculpture, that's for sure.  The diving bell...not so much.  How random is that thing?!  Read up on it - it's actually pretty neat.

This past weekend, the old man and I hit up Helen, GA before the rains came but more on that later!  For now, I'll just leave the Tiny Church Instax Mini as a preview of sorts.

Adventures in Asheville

To celebrate the old man's birthday, we came all the way up to Asheville, NC.  At first, I was all, "What in the world is in Asheville?" but now that we've been here for a day and a half, there's plenty!

On the first day, we drove about an hour west to Chimney Rock and climbed a bunch of stairs for some breath-taking views of North Carolina mountain country.


Today, we walked around the college part of Asheville. It felt a lot like walking around Athens, GA. The places were eclectic and there was some wonderful architecture to check out.



Surprisingly, there are quite a few vegan eateries for the old man and so far, they're delicious! I can't wait to see what's on the docket for tomorrow!

Road tripping (Part 1)

This past weekend, my old man and I went to Jacksonville, FL for Nicole's high school graduation. On the way there, I had some strange thoughts.

• My goddaughter will be graduating high school in about 10 years. *gasp!* They really do grow up fast!
  

• Possible Glee story lines: Will they perform at the local theatres in musical productions outside of school? What will happen with Finn and Rachel? Will Shelby let Quinn see Beth? What's up with Sue? How will they introduce John Stamos - will he be doing a dental procedure on Emma? What will the song in the sing-off between John Stamos and Matthew Morrison be (because you KNOW there will be a sing-off for Emma's love)? Will there be another Diva-off between Kurt and Rachel (for fun this time)? Is it going to go the way of Degrassi: TNG - like, will they admit any new students or will it be the current kids only?

• I get really happy when I see other ethnicities in South Georgia. Sounds silly, I know, but South Georgia (and North Florida for that matter, oh - and don't forget North Georgia too) make me nervous. If I see people of other ethnicities, I feel better.
  
• I missed out on a bunch of photo opportunities in Lumber City, Ga because I was navigating
• Why is my iPhone maps feature better than my actual Tom-Tom GPS system?
• What do people do for work in the middle of nowhere (AKA South Georgia)?

These are the things I think about when I can't quiet my mind - which happens to be all the time.
