My teenage self is crying.
Ever since my teenage self found out Screeching Weasel was going on tour, my teenage self has been holding out hope for getting her old friends together.
When the subject of the Screeching Weasel show came up in conversation last night with one of my best friends, he informed me and my teenage self that the show was no longer happening.
Immediately, I thought it was Ben's kids (who he speaks so fondly of on his Twitter feed) or one of the other guys couldn't come for some reason - but no. Carter informed me that it was far worse. Far worse than what? Carter didn't want to tell me because he didn't want to break the spell cast on me so many years ago but I begged and pleaded. He told me the heart-wrenching news: Screeching Weasel had spontaneously broken up. But why? What could have happened to make the band just quit? I have been waiting too long to be on the cusp of such an awesome event and have it not happen. Right?
Apparently at SXSW this year, Ben Weasel felt the need to HIT A WOMAN IN THE FACE. That's right. He fucking hit a woman in the face causing the band members to spontaneously quit the band and cancel the tour.
I get it - you're a punk. Some kind of outburst is kind of expected from you. I understand that. But what the fuck was so terrible that you felt the need to outright punch someone in the face and then attack the person trying to stop it all? I get it - she was (possibly) a snotty nosed brat throwing ice cubes for the entire show (apparently). But instead of hitting her, you could have just gotten security to stop it or move her or whatever. Or maybe she was trying to revive the days of yore when that kind of behavior could elicit some kind of response from any front man - like playfully throwing something back or turning the audience on them or verbally abusing them.
My punk days might be slightly over but I can safely say I'm a little disappointed at Ben. Sure, you can bitch about Screeching Weasel playing at a corporate sell out event but you're the ones who decided to play SXSW. YOU made that decision knowing full well that there was a strong possibility that there were going to be brats in the audience. Your fans love you and they'll do anything to get your attention - including throwing stuff at you.
So I guess it was you, Ben, who decided Screeching Weasel were going to use SXSW as a starting point to mark their return. I never expected to hear Screeching Weasel at SXSW but times change, yes, and I guess Ben felt the need to showcase the new (and improved?) Screeching Weasel where they would get some kind of publicity. Not like this, Ben, not like this.
My teenage self is still crying.
Love and kisses,
Katzi

These kids today...
Sunday morning, I woke up on my couch with a head-pounding hangover. The night before was filled with 3 pitchers of margaritas, drag queens, good friends and food - including a fried Snickers bar (OMG awesomenss). The reason I woke up on the couch is because I normally take a shower if I've come home from places that allow smoking (my BF hates the smell) but I didn't feel like showering so to avoid comments from the peanut gallery, I slept downstairs.
When I drink as much as I drank that night, I usually sleep for a few hours and then sleep-wallk my way through the next day and that's exactly what I did. And since I had the TV to myself, the hard part was trying to figure out what to watch.
I flipped around and around trying to find something interesting or something that could possibly put me back to sleep but instead I found nothing but infomercials and crap. So what do I do? Put it on MTV before realizing what was on and I flip over to try and go back to sleep. But I can't. Why? Because there's this bratty girl yelling at her mom about how hard it is to have a social life after you've had a kid. I turn around and there she is, yelling at her mother like she's the worst parent in the world. What in the cuss am I watching? Oh, it must be Teen Mom. And yes, I got sucked in.
That brat's name is Farrah. She yells at her mom for reminding her that she's a mother now and that she shouldn't party so much and it was making me so mad. What do you expect, Farrah? You have a fucking kid now! Your social life is practically dead until they're old enough to take care of themselves. Don't treat your parents like shit just because they won't let you go out with your friends.
The whole time, I kept thinking "If I was Farrah's mom, I'd strangle her!" And lo and behold: Farrah's mom - My hero Debra - got arrested on Saturday for allegedly choking Farrah! My fucking hero! Or should I say she-ro! It's about damn time she stood up to her own disrespectful daughter! If I was acting all disrespectful to my mom like that at her age, I would've had a fat lip and been locked in my room for a LONG TIME. If I had a fucking kid at her age, I couldn't even imagine what my mom would do. She certainly would NOT let me go out and party whenever I felt like. I know that for sure.
And what's up with Amber and Gary? Their relationship is like a trainwreck. And I don't even know the point of having Catelynn on the show when she gave her kid up for adoption. I mean, I understand the stress that happens when you willingly give up your child and all but all the focus is on her boyfriend's redneck parents. Well, redneck dad, I suppose.
I think it's safe to say that I don't think I'll be watching that show ever again because it got me so angry at the attitudes of teenagers today. Call me old school but you've got to respect your parents and parents, you have to command the respect from your kids. You're the boss until they move out. Me, I'm such a push-over with my nieces it's not even funny. But I try not to let it get out of hand. They still recognize that I'm a boss too. These kids today...
I'll stay away from Teen Mom - just let me have my Jersey Shore!

Morbid Monday: Death in dreams
"To sleep, perchance to dream", the famous line from Shakespeare's Hamlet.
That particular quote is from the even more famous "To be or not to be" soliloquy delivered by Hamlet himself: "For in that sleep of death what dreams may come / When we have shuffled off this mortal coil / Must give us pause". This quote is about death: suicide in particular, of course. Why is it so important to me? Because of its meaning of death.
Hamlet's speech haunted me after my nightmare the other night. I awoke on Saturday morning, crying hysterically. Why? I was eulogizing at my friends' funeral. A dream of a rather violent death of a friend with me powerless to stop it. What did it all mean?
Usually with dreams, you take the literal approach: death in a dream means death in real life. But not so. I told my Mom about this dream and she asked "Is there a wedding that you might be going to?" A wedding? How did she know I will be attending a wedding this weekend?
Here is one interpretation of death in a dream. This one eases my mind a little.
But why all the violence? I wanted to jump out of bed and call Double D right away to make sure he was all right but my BF stopped me since it was 4am PDT. Turns out he was awake at that time and when I called him later that day, I'm sure I spooked him with all the "death talk"...
But there was one reoccurring theme in the dream: I made sure everyone knew that I cared for Double D deeply in life (and death) and that our friendship ran deeper than friends - he was more like a family member.
So, does the intensity of the dream signify the intensity of the marriage I will witness? Or does it mean that the dream is not referencing the marriage I'm thinking of (between long-time cutest couple ever Jen & Nick) or is it referencing another marriage that was supposed to have taken place a few weeks ago but was terminated due to certain circumstances (hence the violence and the significance of the Hamlet quote)? I cannot be certain but you just never know...

Dear Kenley, WTF?!
Kenley,
Out of all the contestants you were my FAVOURITE on Project Runway: Season 5 but what's all this then? You threw a cat at your fiance? And a laptop?! I knew you had a bit of a sour attitude at times (which was why you're awesome) but seriously, WTF?! I just can't believe it! But you know what? I still ♥ you because you're my girl. You didn't take shit from anyone and you did your own thing and I could tell that you'd fight for your friends (if it came down to it) and I respect you for it. And even though everyone was all frowny face about your attitude as Season 5 progressed, I was TEAM KENLEY all the way!!
You still rock my face off and I'm sure your (ex)boy probably deserved it. Or maybe it was that time of the month and he unknowingly set off the WRONG trigger. Hell, maybe you have an EXTREME case of PMDD (because Lord knows I do...) It could have been ANYTHING! Who knows? Maybe you're sorry about it. Maybe not.

I will say this, Gawker's headline is correct: An important movement has begun (in the spirit of L'il Kim and Paris and all the other kids):

We ♥ you Kenley!!

ED NOTE: This entry makes me feel bad now because we ALL know Tim Gunn is a saint and what he says is true. What he says in the AP clip makes me sad and disappointed with Kenley BUT I still support her! We all have our own ways in expressing ourselves and if hers was acting a little childish, oh well. For some people, that's all they know: Negative attention is better than no attention at all.
