Mom's Birthday Weekend Fun!

This past weekend was a whirlwind!  Well...what weekend isn't?  It was my Mom's birthday weekend and I realized after I put my outfit together that I like to get extra fashionista for her birthday.  Why?  I have no idea.  I also realized that it's been a year since I dyed my hair back to black...
Last weekend, I kindly called my aunt to see if she could sneak a peek at my Mom's shoe size in Converse sneakers so I could get her a very special pair she said she wanted and my aunt had me on speaker phone when I asked the very specific question!  Oops.  My Mom heard everything (of course) so I knew that she knew what her present was going to be so I had to dress it up MAJOR.  Enter this cute bag from good ol' Target

My mom's birthday present! ✨

AND a tiara and scepter!  I picked up the metallic grey and black from the wedding section and the tiara and scepter from the kids section.  Cute!  But what was lurking under all that tissue paper?
These!
My mom's birthday gift revealed: Wonder Woman Converse! ✨
My Mom had off-handedly mentioned she wanted these shoes and somehow, I remembered to get them for her even though they're not too comfortable for her but I'm sure she'll wear them out anyway.  Cute!

I was in a "makin'" kinda mood this weekend since my old man recovered my spikes for me.  Here's what I started with:

Just finished this spiky lil bracelet too! *high five*

I took this pink belt (that came with a black dress) that wasn't really doing anything for me and I started poking holes in it by the buckle. After arranging my spikes and cutting the belt to the right length, I had a hot pink spiky bracelet!  So I had to make another - with snap buttons for the closures this time.  I was able to successfully use the mini anorak snaps I've had in my craft drawer FOREVER!  Sweet!
And after all that sweet anorak snap action, I finally got down to the most important craft - my shoes.  I had the second pair purchased.  I found the spikes.  All I needed was the awl.  Done.
After LOTS of poking and a few Real Housewives of New Jersey episodes, I did it. I had my dream shoes.
My favorite shoes just got a little dangerous

And you KNOW I wore them to my Mom's birthday dinner - which happened to be at the Bone Garden Cantina.
Bone Garden Cantina   Live nudes
I think the best part about that place (besides the drink menu) is the decor.

My old man pointed out to me that my outfit matched my Mom's present:
Pattern   #armparty and yes, those are my pink pants in the background ;)
The background for the bracelets is actually my new pair of pink pants! And the geometic print belongs to my shirt.  So yes, I kept it in the pink, black and white family but I liked my outfit!  Funny coincidence!

How was your weekend?

OMG Shoes

After seeing these Starla sandals on Refinery 29's Instagram feed yesterday, I knew I was in love! I went on a frantic search all over the interwebz to find them.
Initially I thought they just came in gold

Which is fine by me because I'm trying to break away from the black-goes-with-errrything accessory rule I've given myself but sweet, sweet baby Jesus - they come in black!

At $175, they might sound like a steal to some but for me, that's quite a lot for some sandals but I might dip into my secret allowance stash for these babies because they are FIERCE.

- OR -

I could save my allowance $$$ for what I TRULY want: RuPaul's Drag Race for Iron Fist shoes!!

Giiiiiiiiirl

GUUUUUUURL

I could totally see Lady LaLa in these!

DAAAAAAMMMMNNNNN

And there are many MANY more to come because Jiggly wore some for her Dragazine shoot that aren't featured in the Comming Soon section of the site.  I can't wait to see the whole collection because you know it's going to be sickening!  Decisions decisions!

Weekend Fun

This weekend was some good quality low key fun. My old man and I went shopping for a little black dress for me to alter for a work event (details to come soon) and we started looking for shirts for him but I ended up shopping more for Double D instead!

Well-dressed

Well-dressed

I decided I'd take the cute route for Tennis last night and I wore items I'd never usually wear to shows: a dress and some wedges. WHAT.

Dot dash

My way of thinking always was to never EVER wear skirts or shoes you like to shows for fear of messing them up or getting taken advantage of. Back in my younger days I was sort of a bully to girls that wore skirts to shows. I know, I know, I shouldn't have been but I always thought it was really careless to wear skirts to shows. And as far as the shoes are concerned, I thought it was careless as well. Why wear nice shoes if they're going to get scuffed up by drunk assholes? Well, I threw all that into the wind and wore a new black dress with leggings (in case of bully karma) and my new shoes from H&M. I mean, the Tennis crowd wasn't going to be crazy, right? Well...sort of...

The Tennis crowd was a little rowdy - which sort of irked me a bit but all I kept thinking was I bought my tickets a month ago and I wasn't going to let these fools ruin my good time - which they didn't.

70/366: Tennis

Tennis

Tennis was great live! I was so thrilled to finally have the chance to see them! I definitely recommend checking them out! I also recommend their albums Cape Dory and my recently purchased Young and Old. I listened to it on my way home and it was as dreamy as ever.

I'm definitely looking forward to next week for two major reasons: 1. Community is back on Thursday night! YES!! and 2. The old man and I are FINALLY getting to see Childish Gambino LIVE! WHAT WHAT!! We missed him last year because of work (boooooo) so I'm glad I get to take my old man a few days before his birthday this year! Hooray! I hope to have a good amount of photos from that.

Did you do anything fun this weekend?

WIWT: Flowers in her hair...

Well, I made good on yesterday's promise to stick some cherry blossoms in my hair.
Flowers              Blurry

No, I'm not channeling my inner Lana Del Rey...

LMAO

I'm trying to make myself feel better and more Spring-y to take the focus off of the Sahara Desert that is currently residing in my chest.  It feels so dry and full of sand and it's making me completely miserable!  Not to worry - I've also been distracting myself with my pretty necklaces.
Necklaces

I took a cue from last night's Project Runway All-Stars and decided I would layer some fancy looking necklaces to exude the "rich girl" vibe.  The necklace with the red heart, black chain and black cabochon with the bow in the center is a 3 tiered Betsey Johnson necklace my Mom gave me for Christmas - which I LOVE.  The gold Y-necklace with the humungous crystal in the middle is a...wait for it..."Official" replica from The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn movie.  I'm guessing it's from Part 2 since I didn't see it at all during Part 1 and I made it a point to wear it to Part 1 because I thought I'd be seeing it then.  Once you get over the fact that it's Twilight-related you have to admit that it's pretty badass, right? YES!
Everyone at work loves the flowers and the necklaces today!

I also decided to wear my favourite "fashionista" wedges (that were a total impulse buy).

I got them because I really liked the design, they were on sale and they are a little outside the box for my personal style.  And because of that last bullet point, I have a hard time styling them.  Today's outfit was fun though!  Heather was giving me major shoe envy with her sky high heels today!

Don't let this photo fool you! They look shorter than they actually are. These puppies are super high!  Almost as high as my sliver heels, if not the same height!  I wish I could comfortably wear those to work.  LOL.  I don't think anyone would believe they were mine!

This post was really an excuse to use the new Blanko Freedom 13 film that Hipstamatic came out with today.  I had already downloaded the Americana lens last week with their Free Pak but I have to say that I enjoy the Freedom 13 film with the Tejas lens a little more.  This weekend will give me some good opportunities to experiment (I hope!).

Do you have any special, fun plans this weekend?

New Year's Resolution #1: Be Girly

I wasn't planning on having any New Year's Resolutions but I've been toying with the idea of getting more "girly" ever since I spent a weekend with co-workers during a massive work event.  I've never felt so un-girly in my entire life!  When I laid out my toiletries, I felt like such a tomboy.  First of all, I had them in a freaking plastic Target bag and I had the basics: toothpaste, tooth brush, deodorant, basic soap, basic shampoo and conditioner, a hair brush and that's pretty much it.  My fabulous roommate had the cutest toiletries bag, perfumes, body sprays, and more girly things than you could shake a stick at.  I felt like such a punk.  But you know, my job is very physical and there's really no point in me getting all dolled up - especially on that particular weekend since there was a lot of eye-rubbing, camera time (behind the camera), virtually no sleep and lots and LOTS of running around.  I had to switch rooms on the last day to an even girlier set of girls and I just felt so...so...well let's just say I felt like even less of a girl - even though I had to get dolled up that day for the work-related after party.
I made a choice then.  I decided I would make the effort to be more girly.  Like, body spray girly.  Like, more glittery girly.  And you know what?
I'm failing.  Well, I'm not failing too bad but I'm not doing as well as I had hoped.

And that was in August.

I've been thinking all this time about what I could possibly do to be more girly.  I got a cute toiletries bag (which is girly but edgy, I guess) and today, I made a HUGE milestone.

I decided that, for New Year's, I will wear as many cutesy, girly and sparkly items as I can to help catapult me into girly-ness.  Not for anyone else but myself.

The only reason I'm pushing this is because my style isn't defined.  Sometimes I like gothy things and sometimes I like girly things and most times (because of work) I like to be casual so I feel like my style tends to be disjointed and a little all over the place.  I'd like my styles to combine successfully but still be able to work.  Like, say, my co-worker friend.

With her in mind, I went on a mini shopping spree and acquired the following items:

Yes!  I've purchased some glittery heels!  The lift is 5 inches and I've been running around the house alternating between silver stilettos and pink wedges.

Mind you, I'm no stranger to heels but I usually take them off after about 20 minutes.  I've only been to one party where I've had to keep them on all night and it was terrible.  This time, I'm making myself keep them on for longer than just 20 minutes and I WILL be taking my sister's advice: if your feet hurt, keep drinking!  Don't mind if I do.
I even put together some potential outfits.
This first one is a potential outfit for my Dad's birthday dinner tomorrow night.

I might get rid of the H&M necklace for the final look...  Is it a little showy?  Yes.  But I want to wear the wedges as a "starter" before my New Year's Eve outfit:

This outfit actually has some meaning to it.  I want 2012 to be filled with love, light and prosperity so I wanted to showcase those things with the things I'm wearing - the "Love" t-shirt, the anchor necklace which symbolizes my gratitude for all the people who have been my "anchors" in my life and the silver sparkly shoes (and sparky toenail polish) for prosperity.  Why?  Why not?!  It will be an entry to my newfound girly-ness and the glitter reminds me of money and diamonds.  A stretch?  Mayyyyyybeeeee but why not have fun with it?!  (Not pictured: my pink glitter and animal print bracelet.)

So there you have it.  My first, concrete New Year's Resolution for 2012.  Like I said before, I have zero regrets for this year and I'm hoping 2012 will be bigger and better than this year.

Love and light to you all!

What are your New Year's Resolutions for 2K12?
