Incoming Mail + The Anthropomorphic Mail Art Project!

 

Yesterday was another great mail day!  I received goodies from Cazz from Nerd Burger, Mary from Uncustomary Art, Erica from Star Stuff, Cara from Chewy Tulip and Fab from Wreck This Girl!  I also received my awesome shirts from Good Kids but I'm keeping those secret for now!

I'm excited about the cute little bat balloon in the first photo because it's part of Chewy Tulip's Anthropomorphic Mail Art Project!  In the envelope were two (hooray!!) postcards of animal heads for me to give bodies to and I'm so excited, I can't even wait!  I'm keeping them secret until I send them back and Cara has posted them but I'm so excited for one of them, I feel like I'm going to explode!  I'm also doing a set of creative exercises with my old man and as part of it, I've assigned him the other animal postcard to see what he comes up with.  I can't wait to see what he does!

Erica has been awesomely blogging about her adventures with her Creepy Hearts Club hearts on her blog and I'm loving it!!  Check it out!  PS - I've got major envelope envy!  Look at her pretty envelopes!

Adventures in Nail Art

After much debating, I finally decided I wanted to get my nails done. But the question was: who could do it? Who could do great nail art in Atlanta? I searched and searched but I couldn't think of anything - and living OTP (outside the Perimeter / aka: the suburbs) wasn't helping my case. Sure, I've done some pretty sweet nail art myself but there's nothing more glamorous than getting them done. But where?!
Then I remembered! The lovely DJ Speakerfoxxx always has awesome nail pics on her Instagram so I sent Oni on the case: where does Speakerfoxxx get her nails done?! I had to know!!
After a while, I got what I needed. She gets her nails done by a wonderful woman named Christian at Sugarcoat in the Highlands. I made my appointment for today and anxiously waited.
And while I waited this morning, I curled my hair two ways. First: with the most ancient hot roller set I picked up from my Mom's house last weekend:

And after I pulled the hot rollers out, I spruced them back up with my curling iron, pinned them and tied them all up under a pretty scarf (so I could run out and get some breakfast!)


And I did my makeup too! And while I let my curls heat set a little longer than I wanted, I scrounged the interwebz for nail art ideas.
I went to Wah Nails and The Illustrated Nail. I checked out the #nailart and #nailsdid tags on and I went directly to Speakerfoxxx's page for some direct inspiration.
I had a couple of photos saved on my phone already of pretty leopard print manis but I wasn't sure if that was what I really wanted...until I saw these!


LOVE! So after much debating at the very intimidating colour wall, I decided on three colours: a blue that resembled "Slushied" (from the Glee OPI collection), a neon hot pink and a pretty neon green.


I felt like a kid in a candy store: I didn't know what to tell Christian to do! I felt terrible but she was very sweet and we finally decided on a design I saw on Candy Paint:


Gah! So beautiful! But I didn't want an exact copy - hence the blue colour. And we even pulled from Speakerfoxxx's pretty 80's nails to create this lovely mani!


And I've been getting lots of love on Instagram since I posted it! It's making me so happy! But what's more - I got a notification that startled me and made me feel all giddy. I got a "Like" from ultra style maven Nicolette Mason!

WHAAAAAT??!!!! OMG! I had a total fangirl moment! I love her blog and her style and she liked one of my photos?! I'm freaking out!!

Christian did such an amazing job on my nails and I can't wait to see her for my next appointment! Since we chatted (more like I talked her ear off about nail art), she said I could come up with some wacky idea for next time but I'd have to call her to send her photos of what I'd like to experiment with next. I mentioned galaxy nails (again, I know) but she had never seen them. I didn't get a chance to show her my attempts at them but I know she'd come up with some killer galaxy designs! Maybe next time I'll incorporate some hardware since Lauren did hook me up with some studs...I'll keep my eyes open. Maybe we can go high fashion next time? Sounds like fun!

Workplace Hero

This past Monday the resident super-fast runner at the office, Tara, ran in the Boston Marathon!  I managed to keep my enthusiasm down - even  when we found out she was running it at her bridal shower, I was ecstatic!  I was so excited when I found out we could track her on the website too!  Too bad work got in the way and I ended up being so busy I could only pull up her finishing stats.  I ended up missing the entire race!  Oh well.  There were other co-workers that were able to multitask tracking her and working better than I could so they gave me a breakdown afterwards.  I was still very overcome with joy at the fact that she actually did it that I started asking her boss if she was going to do anything for her, like make a poster or decorate her desk or something.  It turns out she was going to decorate Tara's desk but she liked the poster / banner idea.  I told her to email me what she wanted the poster to say and I would take care of the rest.
After the banner was signed off on, I printed it on our plotting printer and as I was pulling it off, Heather said that we should probably all sign it.  I was all "Damn girl, why you gonna write all over my Photoshoppin'".  Just kidding.  We all signed it and it looked amazing!  And after some decorating, Tara's cube was ready for her triumphant return!


If I were here, I would've stayed home and rested the rest of the week after a race like that but she came in with her medal for us to admire.

How bad ass is that?! It has a freaking UNICORN on it!! Maybe I should train for the Boston Marathon so that I can have a unicorn medal too! HA! I've never even dreamed of doing even a 5K... so I'll just have to settle for an Oscar®.

Congratulations Tara!  You really are my hero and you keep giving me push I need to keep with my own *secret* training (but that's another story).

Blink, My Chem and Matt and Kim rocked my face off!!

I'm not gonna lie - last night made me feel a little old.
As an early birthday present to myself, I went to see My Chemical Romance, Blink 182 and Matt and Kim at Lakewood Amphitheater.  What a show!!  I've seen MCR and Blink a few times but I had never seen Matt and Kim and it was AWESOME!!  They were so hyped up and got the crowd going - it was amazing!  I loved it!  I kind of wish I had seen them the last time they were here at a different venue.  Not that there's anything wrong with Lakewood...  I wish their set was longer!  It was so much fun!

MCR was amazing, as always.  It was nice to see the Blink Bros getting into Matt and Kim and MCR.  (I forgot how bro-ish Blink fans are.)

How did I forget that?  Oh yeah, the last time I saw Blink 182 was around 10+ years ago.  At the same venue too!  LOLZebras.  I will say this: Blink 182's visuals are insane!  I loved it!  I loved the whole thing!  The cartoonish cameras, the moving screens in the background - all of it was amazing!

And the best part about it: after they had played a decent sized set, Tom DeLonge said, "Okay, we're pretending to leave but we'll be back in about 5 minutes".  Then a huge drop cloth came down and they were gone.  Five minutes later, there was this DJ mix playing in the background and then we all heard Travis Barker's crazy drums.  Then, we all SAW Travis Barker at his drumset but it wasn't on stage, oh no, it was ABOVE IT.  WHAT THE WHAT??!?!?  That shit was crazy!!  His drumset was on a mechanical arm that came down from the ceiling and hovered over the crowd!  I had put my PowerShot away since I figured I was done getting blurry photos (damn that camera!) so I got my phone out.  After about 15 seconds with my phone I was like, "You idiot!  Get the other camera so you can zoom in!"  So, I grabbed my other camera and shot away.



I wish I had a better camera. All my MCR footage is blurry and this video does NOT do this performance justice. This was probably one of the better shows I've been to in a long time!  I had so much fun and I was sad when it was over.  Oh well.  All good things must come to an end.  Until next time, kids!  I hope all 3 bands come back to ATL really soon!

Operation: Ghost Ship

All right - with the unmentionable success of Operation: On a Boat, me and my fellow N.A.P. friends decided to take FULL advantage of Tom leaving early yesterday by making another desktop masterpiece dubbed "Operation: Ghost Ship". We weren't sure what route we were going to take it because the enthusiastic gentlemen that graced the boat last time weren't really received well by Tom. What's a girl to do??? Unicorns maybe? Nah - too "Jonathan".
So we gazed long and hard (about 30 seconds) at the other desktop scene from Tom's trip to wine country in CA and decided to have an epic pirate battle. Okay, maybe not epic but we wanted to keep with the boat theme. I originally wanted a T-Rex popping out of the water for no reason at all, right? Awesome! But I didn't feel like cutting out a T-Rex because I knew I had one back at my office. So, I thought about that jumping shark from Planet Earth and wondered if I could Google a breaching shark. Like a gift from the Gods, there it was, in all its glory! So, Larry said to put a ship somewhere in the picture. Immediately, I thought of a pirate ship. Of course! And then Larry sent me another ship to which we decided they were going to have an epic battle! But I didn't feel like Photoshopping that much stuff. So I said shark, pirate ship, ghost pirate ship and what else???? Thank the lord for Marior (aka Cupcake, from now on) because Marior said, "Hey, why don't you put a unicorn bucking on that cliff?" FUCKING GENIUS. So, I found the most retarded one (and the one that would take the least amount of work) and made it happen.
But in the early stages of me Photoshopping this masterpiece, I recieved a text from Tom that said (I kid you NOT): "Stop fucking with my computer!" I assured him we were nowhere near his computer, which fueled the masterpiece even more. The goal was to be subtle but awesome. And I think it worked out nicely.
