How the flower photos came to be

I think my career as a flower photographer with my iPhone has only just begun!
It started with a trip to Whole Foods where I shot some really pretty orchids that looked animalistic. They turned out okay but I wasn't really thinking about shooting more flowers. Well, I was but we were on a schedule - we didn't want to be late for Sherlock Holmes! Sadly, the other flowers were forgotten. Whole Foods always has such beautiful flowers!
Then, on one of our many trips to Target, my BF and I split up and I ended up in the flower section. Lucky for me! That was when I shot my first set of flowers and they came out amazing, if I do say so myself! So much so that I joined a bunch of flower groups on Flickr AND I also joined a bunch of groups dedicated to the wonderful world of iPhoneography and the most wonderful app in the world: the Hipstamatic (but you already knew that).
I've been checking my Flickr like crazy to see how well people are responding to the flowers and it seems like everyone likes them a lot. The comment on this photo made me so happy today! I truly appreciate all comments like that and when people "favorite" my photos! It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside - like I'm doing something people enjoy and appreciate. It's always nice to feel validated with something you're doing.
Now, that may make me sound like I feel a little neglected but that's not the case at all. Truth is that I've always been wanting to put my work up online but I've been afraid of it attracting negative comments. I bit the bullet posting these photos as a way for my friends to find them and nothing bad happened. No negative comments, no nothing. So I started posting more and more and I'm still on the hunt for more of my friends from the 1999 era of band photos specifically. But along the way, I've taken a slight detour - especially since I got my iPhone.
But that did open a can of worms - in a good way.
I've also recently started a Vimeo page. So I guess the realm of the internet isn't that bad. Maybe I'm just too shy...

And maybe I'll start an iPhone 365 project, like say...today! Huzzah! We'll see...

NPR and a Commentary About Twitter

I was listening to NPR this morning when I heard this commentary: Keep Your Tweets to Yourself by John Ridley. It made me think about the whole privacy thing for a moment but then I realized that Twitter is really just a way to spout out random things. It's like micro-blogging for the super ADD. You get 140 characters to do what? Share little snippets with people. Maybe a celebrity that will never @Reply you back. Maybe it's a cryptic message you're trying to send across. Maybe it's a way to locate your friend at the Masquerade. Or maybe it's a way to get things off your mind - whether they mean something or not.

Personally, I keep my Facebook status and Twitters separate because I use Twitter to say the things I don't really care to tell ALL my friends. And to send messages to celebrities that I know will NEVER @Reply me back. So, I agree and disagree with the commentary I heard this morning. It's like Twitter is the newest way to get "Internet Famous". Like, if you post something buzzworthy or something, everyone is talking about you. Whether it's a Twitter War or TwitPics or Twit-Whatevers, it's the newest way for "Common People" to have a voice to share with the world. So, if you don't agree with the newest internet fad where people are voluntarily giving random information about themselves/their current situations, don't fret! Another newer, better internet fad is on its way (I'm sure).

The creepiest thing you'll ever see / do on the internets...

The fine folks over at Buzz Feed directed me to PhotoFace. There, you can upload a photo of yourself (or others) and turn it into a fucked up 3-D version. The eyes follow the arrow and you can totally change the expression from happy to sad to mad to surprised. The mad one looks the creepiest.
I wish I could send one to everybody!

Album Covers - the Game

For those of you who don't know, there's this new game on the internets.
Rules:

1 - Go to “wikipedia.” Hit “Random Article”
or click http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random

The first random Wikipedia article you get is the name of your band.

2 - Go to “Random quotations”
or click http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3
The last four or five words of the very last quote of the page is the title of your first album.

3 - Go to flickr and click on “explore the last seven days”
or click http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days
Third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.

4 - Use Photoshop/MS Paint or similar to put it all together.

5 - Share with all your friends!

I finally got around to doing it and here's mine. It came together so perfectly, I felt the sheer emo / post-punk - ness of it all. I think I need a sweater.
