Lauren's Bachelorette Party at Lips!

Saturday was Lauren's Bachelorette Party and little did we know that this past weekend was also Pride Weekend in Atlanta!  We celebrated with the fabulous Mr. Charlie Brown and the lovely ladies at Lips!  You know me - I love me some Lips so I was super excited when Lauren suggested it for her party :)
Please excuse the horrible iPhone photos - I forgot to bring my little point-and-shoot.  It was a rough week, y'all :(

We had such a blast!!  The night was full of dancing, singing (my favorite was a super sexy performance of Drunk In Love) and drinks galore!  Everyone had so much fun and I'm so glad Lauren enjoyed her night!
With all the Bachelorette fun, we didn't experience any Pride festivities :(  Oh well.  Maybe next year?

How was your weekend?

Happy Birthday Mom!

This weekend was quite full of adventures - the biggest one was the start of my Mom's 60th birthday celebration!  Technically, her birthday was yesterday but that doesn't mean the party has to wait, right?!
I accompanied my mom to the mall on Saturday and there, my sister and I made impromptu plans to take my mom to Gospel Brunch Service at Lips on Easter Sunday.  If you love a good drag show (and we all know I do!) Lips is the best place to go for dinner and a show!  I'm planning on taking Lauren there for her Bachelorette Party because she also loves a good drag show!
My mom had a blast!  They brought her (and everyone else who was celebrating a birthday) on stage and the whole restaurant was shocked to hear that my mom was turning 60 :)  Everyone was so nice and the performers were great!  I can't wait to see what it's like on a regular night!

Above are photos of the flower arrangement I had made for my mom because I thought they were absolutely gorgeous!  I went to the florist and didn't know what to say when the florist asked me what kind of flowers my mom liked.  I totally blanked!  All I could think of was roses (safe, right?) and hydrangeas (for some reason) and then I let her take creative liberties on the rest because I'm hopeless when it comes to flowers - EXCEPT for my favorite flowers: Gerbera Daisies - which I had no idea would make an appearance in her birthday bouquet.  Bonus!
They did a fabulous job at the flower shop and I can't wait until Mother's Day so I have an excuse to have 2 bouquets made!

How's your week so far?
Happy Wednesday!

Nothing but love for Sharon Needles

Turns out Sharon Needles' presence in the A was a little more intense than I thought it was!  Though I didn't see any protesters, they were there.  She also met up with some activists before her show - which didn't go so well.  That explains why when I told her she was awesome she said, "Well, that's debatable".  I also learned that we have the same glasses.

Soulmates!  I kid.  Anyways - the bizarre meeting is also what spawned this during her show:

Honestly, it almost brought me to tears.  (I say "almost" because I didn't want to smear my makeup.  Priorities, people!)
But seriously though, I think the whole uproar is unnecessary.  I'm familiar with the pushing of buttons and that's all she's doing.  I think she's great and if Drag Race and Absolut has a problem with her, don't you think they'd come out and say something?  I'm guessing their absence from all this means they don't have a problem with it - though it would be nice of them to speak out on her behalf...
Either way I stand by Sharon Needles and I think she's very progressive and wonderful and she's definitely the future of drag.  Sure, there's minor bumps along the way but I love what she's doing with drag and I wish I had seen her particular brand of drag growing up.  Technically, I did with Marylin Manson but that's not really the same.  But it was pretty great that she opened with Manson's "Beautiful People".  Here's a short clip I took

I didn't want to watch the show from behind my camera so I turned it off right before it got really good.  Oops!
Here's a better clip from Project Q Atlanta

And here's more photos. I still stand by that it was a GREAT night and I hope she will return to Atlanta because I know I won't be the only one to welcome her with open arms.

Sharon Needles visits Atlanta

Last night!  Oh my lawd last night was so much fun!!  At first I wasn't sure what to expect with all the protest talk and all that but I didn't see a single protester.  I guess they must have showed up later since Sharon kept saying they were out there.  Either way - last night was AMAZING!  I love a good drag show and last night's did NOT disappoint.  I mean how could it?  Phoenix was there.  Nicole Paige Brooks was there.  Savannah Leigh was there.  One of my most FAVOURITE performers Envy Van Micheals was there (Love her so much!!!).  And, of course, Sharon fucking Needles was there.
I'll let my photos explain the rest but I'll also let my photos state my case for a new camera since I can't get it to behave EVER.  Ugh...

Pardon me while I get all glammed up...
Ready!

I was told to pose so this was the best I could come up with so excuse the crazy look on my face! Sharon was an absolute doll and I'm glad I stuck around to meet her! She was great! I couldn't think of anything clever to say so I said, "Sharon, you're so awesome" to which she said, "Well, that's debatable". I told her she was the best part of her season of Drag Race and that she was the future of drag. She was lovely and amazing up close and I'm so happy that I was able to experience her.  Thanks for a wonderful night, ladies!

Check out more photos here!  And if I find anymore, I'll be sure to post them or direct you to them.  Enjoy!

Sharon Needles TONIGHT!

Today is a pretty big day.  I bought my ticket yesterday (talk about procrastinating!) to see . . . SHARON NEEDLES!  Ack!  I'm so excited!  At first, I wasn't too keen on getting tickets to a drag show but then I remembered: Duh, she's the winner of Drag Race, the place will be PACKED!
As I was rummaging through my closet last night, I decided I'd do pinup girl realness since I don't need to get any extra supplies.  Well...maybe some new falsies and I also need to get a bright lip stain at some point.  The one I currently have is more plum and it's almost out!  What's a girl to do!  LOL We'll see how I am on time.
When I got to work, I was busy watching pinup hair tutorials (during a tape capture) and I decided I'd start the process early.  So far, I have my bang curl done and all I have left to do is curl the ends when I get home.

So excited about seeing @sharonneedlespgh tonight that I've started getting ready already

If I had thought about it earlier, I would've tried to enter the Sharon look-a-like contest.  You know, for shits and giggles - especially since I'm not a tall, super skinny white boy.  That would've been funny.  But I'll stick to the pinup stuff and keep it semi-light.
On the plus side: my undercut is growing out nicely and I was able (with the aide of lots of hairspray) to pin it back so that my hairdo is kind of even on both sides.  I really wish I had enough hair on my left side so that I could do victory rolls.  I mean, I've been letting my hair get super greasy for days and I was able to get the right side looking perfect but alas, there's not enough hair on the left side for that without it looking really strange.  Just a few more months (I hope!).
I'm so anxious I can't wait to get home and start my makeup!  I think I'll go heavy with some red eyeshadow and do a red and black smoky eye.  We'll see.  Hopefully I won't have to rearrange looks like I did on Saturday.  Maybe I'll ditch the pinup thing and go punk rock glam?  We'll see how the day holds up!

Who else is going?  Did you hear about the protest?

Paradise Lost

New Jersey. WTF happened?! You were winning me over with your insane charm but today...WHAT THE FUCK?!

Here's the deal - I researched the "hottest drag show" in all of New Jersey and came up with a place in Asbury Park called Paradise. I mean, if Raja (from RuPaul's Drag Race) is performing there, it HAS to be good, right?
Ummmm...define your definition of "good", New Jersey, please, because I don't think I understand.

The drag show at Paradise was good BUT the hostess, Juliza Alezae, said it was going to be a "long show with a bunch of performers". Now, in Atlanta, "a bunch of performers" is the amazing lineup at Tijuana Garage or those badass ladies at Blake's but in New Jersey, "a bunch of performers" means 4. Yep, only 4.

Oh, and don't let me forget the HATERS. Holy shit, I've NEVER seen so many haters in my life! But apparently, Jersey is full of haters. People here don't like to mingle, from what I've seen and been told. People show up in cliques and stay there. There's no interaction whatsoever and people just do NOT talk to others outside their groups and that really pisses me off. I had totally hyped up this drag show to Cassie - based on my experiences in Atlanta - and it was totally NOT the same. We sat next to these guys that were talking shit about me because I was *gasp* actually interacting with the show! What?! Who the fuck am I??? Yes, I was yelling and encouraging the hostess (Juliza Alezae) with her jokes and banter and the guys next to me were NOT having it at all. Boo on them (and I was so happy when they finally left). And people were just not into it like I was. I was yelling my support for ALL the performers (although there was one performer, Octavia, that should TOTALLY perform in Atlanta). But it felt like people were just really cliquey and not having it at all. For once on this trip, I felt like the tourist for having a good time and engaging with the show.
Wow. Seriously. I feel like I have been taking my experiences in Atlanta for granted now. Shit, even my awesome gay bar/club experiences in New York - all those have been taken for granted because here in Jersey, it's so not even like that at all and that hurts my heart.
It could be because I'm still a little tipsy right now but I don't know. I felt like the performers needed more audience participation but the audience was too cool or too snobby to give it to them.
Shit, even on the fucking dance floor I felt the cold shoulder.
What's up with that, Jersey?! I've been loving you so hard so far and the gay scene is, like, not even what I expected at all. I was hoping for more love but I guess everyone was too busy eye-fucking themselves in any reflective surface, too busy hating on the performers to spread the love and too busy hating in general to spread the love on the dance floor. That makes me sad.
We'll see what other treats I have to look forward to...and let's hope they're filled with more love and less hating...

PS - if ANY of those performers from the drag show tonight performed in Atlanta, I bet you they would get all the love and recognition they totally deserve because all those ladies were AMAZING tonight and I'm just really sad and upset that the show wasn't longer
