As promised, here are the videos of the Mermaid Parade!

Here's an interesting ragtime (?) band we encountered on the boardwalk:
And here's the dance off! Sorry for the "Cloverfield"-type camera action. I had some pretty tall people to maneuver around...
I know I have some on my Canon PowerShot - I just have to look through my haul. Keep a look out for more!

My New York trip - the photos
"The Path To Hell". A great way to start my flight.

BTW, this woman was clutching her barf bag during take off. I was a little worried...

In Sunset Park - my step-sister's neighbourhood

Great show at Tammany Hall! We were bar hopping around the East Village and stumbled into this really awesome place. Lots of fun! I definitely want to go back!
Check out a brief video from the show here.

This piece was on Broadway in SoHo. We spotted it on my quest for a gold rope necklace.

It's not a trip to NYC unless you've been to Little Italy! (Yes, I had amazing pizza, as usual)

My step-sister and me in our mermaid outfits before the Mermaid Parade

The iconic Wonder Wheel ferris wheel at Coney Island

Coney Island's parachute drop

We ran into Jesse and Courtney during our walk through the parade route!

I loved this girl's cute little necklace! I should've asked her about it but it seems easy enough to recreate with vinyl ^_^

Sheryl Yvette

I had only passed by Rockefeller Center in the past and on Sunday, we celebrated Father's Day with my step-brother in-law by eating at the Rockefeller Center Cafe which is where you normally see ice skaters during the winter. This is the closest I've ever been to Prometheus!

My niece checking out the view

The always gorgeous Saint Patrick's Cathedral - which we spotted from the Top of the Rock. I didn't realize it was right there!

Mandatory photo of the iconic Radio City Music Hall

Chandelier at Jacques Torres

I finally made it to a Jacques Torres store! I have always been a huge fan of Jacques Torres from his Food Network show days but I could never make it to his store in Dumbo BUT there was a store at Rockefeller Center and I totally spent a ton of money on his high end chocolates. I regret nothing! Every piece is like heaven. I wish I could live on his chocolates forever...
More photos and videos to come, I promise!!

Dragon*Con 2010!
I had never been to Dragon*Con. Ever. I had always seen pictures and heard stories but I had never experienced it. I was always afraid that you needed a pass just to see the patrons in costumes but last year, my sister proved it wrong. She obtained press passes and embarked on a journey that sounded so fun, I had to get in on it this year. And so I did.
No press passes for us, though. We entered the Dragon*Con journey at the perfect place to start: Friday night at Trader Vic's, a Hawaiian themed bar residing under the Hilton. What a madhouse! I wasn't expecting so much awesomeness! I mean, I guess I was but I didn't know what to do with myself. And the worst part was: I forgot my camera.
Once we had a few drinks in us and after I ran into an old high school friend (fun times!), we were off. I was running around in a drunken haze of my childhood heroes in real life. Everywhere we went, I threw my phone at my old man and demanded he take a photo of me and whoever I was able to track down. Everyone was great on Friday! Great costumes, great attitudes, great everything! The crowd wasn't that big - which was a bonus. Saturday was different story.
Saturday was crazy! I had forgotten that they were trying to break the World Record for the most costumed people in one place at the same time, so you know it was crowded! But I got more attitude Saturday night when I asked for photos :( Oh well. If I had been in costume, I would've loved posing! Which makes me wonder what I should do for next year...
I was also on sort of a scavenger hunt. Since I forgot my regular camera on Friday night and was only able to obtain blurry, low lit photos with my phone, I wanted to see if I could find the same-ish costumes on Saturday night. What a task! The not-so-hard ones: Halo (MANDATORY), Steampunk anything and Waldo. The ones I really needed were Sailor Moon - which was one of the FIRST costumes I saw (!!!!), The Comedian (from Watchmen) - the BEST Comedian was on Friday, Cloud from "Final Fantasy" and a few others I can't remember. And those that I couldn't remember prompted me to come up with a great idea: get a group together in teams of 2 or 4 and go on a "Pics or it didn't happen" scavenger hunt! Each team has the same sheet and their task is to go on which ever day they choose - Thursday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday or all days - and get photos of the characters on the sheet. Bonus points awarded for not so well-known characters. Example: we kept seeing cheerleaders Saturday night but only I recognized them as Cheerios (the cheeleaders in Glee) and other smaller characters - like the Samurai Pizza Cats or something not a whole lot of people know... We'll see how the list comes together.
Until the, check out my Flickr set from Dragon*Con and be sure to check out more groups for more photos!!

Halloween 2K9
In 2006, my niece/Goddaughter came for Halloween / her Grandma's birthday and she had never been trick-or-treating before. Of course, being 4 years old and living in Brooklyn doesn't really give much opportunity to go trick-or-treating just yet. But we took her around the friendly subdivision my Mom lives in for her first time.
Costumes (2k6):
The little one was Thomas the Tank Engine - her favourite character at the time
The Sisters: well, we were a mash of trashy dresses, make up and hairspray (see below)

Not only were we a sea of hairspray and neon make up, but we also had some cheesy music (courtesy of my old Samsung) and we...danced.
We danced our hearts out at the end of driveways while the Little One walked up and rang the doorbell to get candy. And let's not forget while we danced, Oni sprayed enough Aquanet to burn another hole in the ozone right above Georgia...
This year is a different story. A certain someone (me) is going to visit for Halloween this year and me and Vee had our costumes all planned out. We were going as the ladies of the SNL skit "Biker Chick Chat" (the one where the f-bomb was dropped causing all the hoopla that was unnecessary) but the Little One had other plans: our costumes were assigned to us by her.
Costumes (2k9):
Little One: A dragon, Vee: Fairy, Me: Witch, Little One's Dad: Knight, Cousin: Vampire (My ideal costume!!! LOLZ), Little One's Little Sis: Princess.
What were the rules? Basically, anyone who wants to join us has to be part of the theme.
Biker Chicks, out. But not entirely. Me and Vee will take our own creative lisence and apply the trashiness of the hair and make up (plus a few other things) and apply them directly to our costumes. Don't fairies have wacky make up? Yep, they certainly do. Can't witches be sparkly and glam? They surely can AND it's all part of the collective look! Nice!
So, I was wondering what the Little One's dragon costume might look like and this is what she wants:

Pretty damn fierce if you ask me! This Halloween is going to ROCK!!
Kisses,
Katzi
