Weekend Adventures

For my Gratitude Journaling, I'm trying something new. I got insanely inspired by Michelle's Get Messy posts so I decided to try and illustrate items that represent some the things I was grateful for that day - starting with Friday.  I didn't want to make them too text-heavy but I did fill out Saturday and Sunday with some text after I took the photos to explain, you know, things like why I illustrated a 1.75 liter bottle of Grand Marnier* and why there's a random Ron del Barrilito bottle** just kinda hanging out on Saturday's page...
I'm having fun with the illustrations but I don't think I'll be able to keep it up much longer.  Things are about to get pretty hectic around here!

*The Grand Marnier was a Thank You present from Lauren's parents.  As one of my Maid of Honor duties, I did the envelope calligraphy for the invitations.  It was so much fun! :)

**My aunt is in town from Puerto Rico and we sipped on some Barrilito Saturday night.  Yay bonding! :)

The Anthropomorphic Mail Art Project - My Submission!

So...Cara posted my postcard submission for the Anthropomorphic Mail Art Project!  I'm so happy!

I received a...wait for it...deer head. WHAT. Immediately, I thought "Hannibal" because...I mean...duh - nightmare stag, right?!

I used this handsome photo of Mads Mikkelsen as my reference for the nightmare stag.



Here are some progress shots of how I did his plaid suit.  Of course, it had to be a 3-piece suit.

I had to somehow include the most incredible curtains that ever existed as a background piece.  The red marker's cap was a darker red but when I started coloring, it was more pinky-fuchsia than anything.  Meh - I went with it.



I also had to add some blood because...it's Hannibal.  Lots of blood.  And you know me, I love blood.



The word bubble says: "Tell me about your dreams, Will Graham" but you have to imagine it in Mads' best Hannibal voice.

Not gonna lie, this project took a darker turn than I thought but I'm happy with the way it came out because it's Hannibal-related and I dig that.  I hope you guys like it, too!

Draw Something!

Like most of the world's population, I've started playing Draw Something.  I held off from joining because I already play Charadium but by comparison, Charadium isn't as fun....Sorry!  I like Charadium's layout better but Draw Something is more accessible, I guess because of the FB Connect feature.  And on the Ping Pong feature on Charadium, I've been getting a lot of creeps lately.  Not good.  With Draw Something at least I know I'm playing with my friends.  And because I'm playing on my iPad, I feel like I have quite the advantage.  I don't think I could ever play on my phone!  That's way too small for my fat fingers!  And I have an extra advantage of playing using my stylus.  Double win.
I'm not the greatest artist.  I left that to my brother (who I would LOVE to play with but he doesn't have the app).  But over the course of playing, I feel as though I'm getting a little better each time!  That depends on the word of course.  Sometimes I get shitty words and have to settle.  Other times I luck out and get great words.  Here are some of my "best" works:

Not gonna lie, this is where I started feeling a little more confident with my abilities.  I mean, my Aladdin and Jasmine are pretty on point < sarcasm / >
          
I was really proud of the Woody I drew for my old man (yeah, that sounds terrible) but he guessed it before I even started drawing the details of the hat!  Lame.  But it is kind of boring to sit through the whole process if you already know what it is, right?  I guess.  I'm definitely not as good as the people featured here but I'm not as terrible as I was!
