Celebrity Sister

As I was perusing the ol' blog-o-sphere during my lunch break yesterday, I noticed a familiar face kept popping into my blog feed: none other than my sister, Oni!

Check out her street style on You've Been Noted

Fantasy Friday with Ulyana Sergeenko

After spending parts of the week daydreaming about elegant times gone by and my dream home adventures, I was delighted to see WWD post about the Ulyana Sergeenko show at Paris Couture Week.  Those dresses!  Those tears!  I loved every single thing about it!  It reminded me of my dream home diversion when I ended up on a Google search about the Neuschwanstein Castle.
My love for the Neuschwanstein goes way back to when my family visited when I was a child.  Granted, I have no memories of it but something draws me to that place.  I feel like there's an energy there that I have to get back to.  I also feel like it's the main reason I love Disney's Sleeping Beauty.  Yes, specifically, the Disney version.  Why?  Because the Neuschwanstein was the model for the Sleeping Beauty castle - what's NOT to love!
So when I saw the lovely Maud Welzen in that pretty gold dress with tears streaming down her face on the WWD Tumblr, I was instantly in love.  After perusing through the collection pictured below, I had to look at her other collections and let me tell you - they're all magnificent.  I will say - I have to disagree with Style.com and this line from their review on her Fall 2012 Couture show:
"Sergeenko is a storyteller, but if she wants to break through to a wider audience, she'll eventually need to curb the fairy tale."

The fairy tale makes it.  Maybe I'm just a kid at heart who still longs for those fairy tale days but I think the fairy tale aspect makes her designs BETTER.  They're all relatable.  You can see certain looks and identify with them right away.  Some remind you of Little Red Riding Hood or those old European toy soldiers or old-world style Nutcrackers or Bavarians in lederhosen or intricate tapestries that were painstakingly crafted by hand by a hearth or any other kind of Russian / German Medieval fantasy world.  Maybe because I grew up with a little of that, I feel extremely connected to it on a spiritual level.  Yes, a spiritual level.  I mean, don't these looks take you to snowy trails in a horse drawn carriage to the Neuschwanstein or any other castle in the countryside?

I leave you with this imagery and photos from the Fall 2013 Ulyana Sergeenko Couture Show.  The last one is the designer herself.  Even she looks like a woodland sprite ready to guide you to your next fantasy realm.  Love her!  I can't wait to see more from her!

PR Season 10: No live-blogging antics this season (Maybe?)

I know what you're thinking: Katzi, why haven't you been pimping this new season of "Project Runway" for the live-blog?!
Well, I'll tell you - I received an email from Cover It Live about them changing their rates and our humble account will no longer be free.  And I'm going to take it as a sign since the last 3 seasons we live-blogged (All-Stars included), I've been kind of "Meh" about the whole show.  Yes, I'm beyond happy that Mondo won All-Stars but I felt like it was because All-Stars was clearly a vehicle to right the wrong of Gretchen winning season 8 blah blah blah.  Joshua McKinley was whatever and yes he won and all that but look who he was competing against...  I think they're on a never-ending quest to find another person as quirky and wonderful as Christian Siriano.  There.  I said it.  It's something I've said before but I feel like it's even more pronounced.  Not to say that Mondo isn't great because I am over the moon with love for Mondo.  Mondo is magnificent and I love him to pieces and he's the best thing to come from the Lifetime era of Project Runway.   But since the show moved from Bravo to Lifetime, it's been on a slippery slope downward because it has to find its personality again.

NOT TO SAY THAT I DON'T LOVE THE SHOW BECAUSE I DO, I REALLY DO BUT...
To me, it's in a weird place and I will take Cover It Live being weird as a sign that maybe live-blogging isn't the route for this season.

And just so you know, I'm not saying goodbye to Project Runway.  In fact, I'm going to Lauren's tonight to have a mini viewing party and I plan on recapping it tomorrow.  I hope to be able to still do recaps the day after and maybe this season will be the season that will make me start enjoying it again?  We'll see...

On that note, be sure to tune in tonight at 9pm for the new season of Project Runway.  You know you miss Tim's wisdom, Heidi's bi-polar-ness, Nina's ice cold stare and Michael's wacky comments!  Who knows - maybe we'll find another live-blogging site and start up again or maybe I'll move the live-blogging to WordPress...hmmm lots to think about...

Project Runway All-Stars: Finale Part 1 - A Look Back at the Top 3

Since there was really nothing to recap from last night's episode, I think I'm going to reflect on the top three designer's favourite three looks from this season of All-Stars.
I'll start with Austin.

Austin has been all over the place for me.  I love him.  I can't stand him.  And sometimes, he's just okay.  Personally, none of his looks really wowed me this season but then again, I'm not that much of an Austin fan to begin with.  Sorry folks!  Anyways - here are my top 3 Austin looks

Although it wasn't my absolute favourite, I did like the way the black tulle worked with the gold in the Opera challenge.
For the street wear challenge, Austin picked the best muse out of all the kids and turned out this really fierce look that his muse would kill for.
And even though the flag challenge wasn't the best, I really enjoy the movement of the fabrics.  The front could've been executed better at the bust but the dress is still pretty.

Michael C is another one I'm all manic about.  I love him.  I can't stand his drama and sometimes, he really turns it out

I couldn't do this entry without talking about my most favourite dress all season: Michael C's Opera dress. Holy Mother! It's gorgeous! You can't sit there and say you hate it because YOU DON'T. You know you secretly want this dress. I know I do. DAMN!
The skirt for the Godspell challenge was gorgeous.  I wasn't a big fan of the overall look BUT I do love the shoe / skirt combo.  Lovely.
The gelato challenge wasn't the greatest either but I think this is a good example of his drapery.  He's so skilled and it moves beautifully with his model.  If I could, I'd try to commission him for a draped piece.  It's like liquid.

On to my most favourite designer is the entire Universe: Mondo!
Mondo has really turned out some amazing stuff this season and I'm really proud!  What I'm kind of afraid of is his moodiness.  Those Geminis have that split personality thing going on and sometimes it's good but Mondo kinda scared me last night with his extreme self loathing.  But you know what?  All that self loathing just means his collection will be tight and right.

For the Godspell challenge, Mondo used his greatest skill to his advantage: successfully mixing prints.  I was a little worried because alone, each print was a bit much but together, they were just the right amount of eccentric and that led him to a win!
The Opera dress was GORGEOUS.  I mean, the cape, the collar cutout, the silver flecks...everything about this look was glam-o-rama and so totally Mondo.  Beautiful!
Even though the judges gave Mondo such shit for his Summer challenge, I loved it.  I love the polka dots on the shirt with the weave pattern on the shorts.  I love the neon pops of colour and I love the Barbie look of his model's hair.  Everything about it was great and fun and Summery but the judges didn't think so.  Oh well.

This I just had to share - while I was taking a look back at the past looks of this season, I was looking at Mondo's street style challenge and I realized something: his model kinda looks like Willam from Drag Race season 4.  Ha!!

LOL  Frizzy hair and all!  Wowzers!

Aaaaanyways - I hope Mondo finds himself in his therapy-themed collection and wins the whole thing (like he should).  The inkblots he made were awesome and I can't wait to see his final looks!

Who are you rooting for?

Inspired: Rodarte Star Clips

Is it possible to love an accessory so much you want to marry it? Yes. Yes it is.What accessory am I talking about? Why, this little darling from the Rodarte show yesterday...

Precious. I want it. I need it. But I can't quite have one. What, then? Do I curl up in bed and go wanting? NO! These little star beauties reminded me of these little star beauties:

They're not exactly the same BUT I think I'll take a cue from this fellow DIY-er and try to make my own.
I'll try to make mine closer to the ones seen at Rodarte but we'll see...Honestly, I think it will have a more Janine Basil feel - which I'm totally okay with since her stuff is AWESOME.
After reading this great article on From Me To You about the behind the scenes of the Rodarte show, I'm totally inspired to get my sick self crafting.Since I can't be in all the NYFW fun and since I definitely can't afford the fashion - why not try to recreate a budget-friendly version?  I enjoy that!  Maybe I'll have enough strength (and courage) to make my version of that cute L.A.M.B. pleated skirt?  I hope so!  Maybe I'll enlist the help of my Mom or Oni...making an actual garment from scratch scares me!

Prada F/W2012 Menswear Runway Show

We're no strangers to actors walking the runway during Fashion Week and at Prada's Menswear Fall 2012 show at Milan Fashion Week, there were some familiar faces rocking the red carpet runway.

Aptly named "Prada Presents: Il Palazzo. A Palace of Role Play", the show featured "a parody of male power".  Fabrics and patterns were not as they seemed...
*Read HERE for the full review*

But while Miuccia Prada dazzled with her striking patterns and Steampunk / Edwardian / Sherlock Holmes-esque style, some famous faces stood out...

I am (and always will be) a fan of Emile Hirsch. He looked absolutely charming in this outfit.

How I've missed you Emile!

Adrien Brody KILLED this outfit. The red glasses, the red jacket, the slicked back hair and the walk.  THE WALK.

I feel like a romance novelist thinking of ways to describe Adrien Brody here but I'll spare you...

Always the badass, Gary Oldman showed everyone how it was done on his turn down the red carpet runway.

Just look at him!  He's making that outfit his bitch and although it might be constructed out of inexpensive material, it looks like it's worth $1,000,000,000.  He is owning it.  And look at that snarl.  Perfection.  No wonder he ended the show.  BAM.

Also in this show, I think I've found my latest inspiration...

His name is Lessandro Reyniers and he is WORKING that look.

You can see the complete collection here
See the video of the show here
You can see the other gifs here (with Tim Roth, Jamie Bell and Willem Dafoe)

You know who was missing though?  Nicholas Hoult and Jamie Campbell Bower...They would've added to the handsomeness.  Yes I am aware that I've said some not-so-nice things about Nicholas Hoult but after watching him in A Single Man and seeing his l'il face plastered all over my Tumblr dash from when he did that Tom Ford campaign, I must say he is quite the handsome fella!  But I will save that for another day..........
